Kaunas University of Technology
Kaunas University of Technology is one of the largest technical university in the Baltic States. It has 9 faculties and 9 research institutes, offers Bachelor, Master and Doctoral Degree programmes. University enrolls approx. 9.000 students and has 1000 academic staff. The mission of Kaunas University of Technology is to provide research-based studies of international level, to create and to transfer knowledge and innovative technologies for sustainable development and innovative growth of the country, to provide an open creative environment that inspires leaders and talented individuals. The strategy of KTU is focussed on developing the innovation-based research results solving tomorrow’s problems, including climate change and other environmental challenges. KTU is a member of many international associations (ECIU, EUA, CESAER, EUCEN, SEFI, EAIE, EDEN, Global Compact, IACEE, UICEE, BALTECH, ATUBS). In 2015, KTU took one of the most important steps in the development of international relations by becoming a member of the network of the European Universities – ECIU University. In cooperation with foreign universities, their communities, representatives of business, public sector and civil society, we have begun the development of an innovative challenge-based higher education model in Europe.
The Faculty of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities
The Faculty of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities creates a dynamic and solid platform for the development of contemporary knowledge and innovation society in Lithuania, with the focus on research and study excellence in different disciplines including public administration, politics, regional development, and sociology. The Faculty of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities and its scholars are very active in European and international scientific cooperation. There is a wide spectrum of research teams, mostly working in interdisciplinary academic areas, including active participation in Framework, COST or national programmes, participating and leading projects in citizen engagement, democracy, environmental education, youth social inclusion, citizen science, open science, civil society, civic participation, social innovations. The staff has experience in coordinating implementation of surveys with nationally representative samples (e.g. International Social Survey Programme, ISSP).
Role in the Project
WP3
Kauno technologijos universitetas (KTU) will lead WP3 and ensure the successful development and implementation of the CitizenUnited coursework.
KTU will organise an initial meeting to define the objectives, expected outcomes and framework of WP3, as well as thestructure and requirements of the CitizenUnited coursework.
Also, KTU will develop the guidelines and basic structure for the coursework.

Egle Butkeviciene
Professor of Sociology &
Head of Committee for Political Science, Sociology and Public Governance Study Programs
Egle Butkeviciene, PhD, serves as full Professor of Sociology and head of Committee for Political Science, Sociology and Public Governance Study Programs at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities, Kaunas University of Technology. She holds a visiting professor appointment at University of Central Florida. Her research and teaching focuses on civil society issues, public governance, civic participation, social innovations, citizen science, social entrepreneurship, environmental activism, and social impact of technologies.
She is a founding member of Citizen Science Association in Lithuania. Currently she also serves as a member of Board of Directors of European Citizen Science Association (ECSA), represents Lithuanian University Rectors Conference (LURC) in EUA Expert Group on Open Science (EGOS) and is a contact point in Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA). She is an expert in ESF Social Innovation+ initiative and a trainer (ToT) on Science for Policy.
