Bluechain Research Cooperative
Bluechain Research Cooperative is a social cooperative enterprise based in Kavala, Greece, active in Research & Development in decentralized computing, blockchain technologies, and digital systems for the common good.
Bluechain develops full-scale digital systems and platforms, from prototype to production, combining technological innovation with social impact. Its work focuses on creating inclusive, accessible, and socially meaningful digital solutions in areas such as environmental resource management, digital security, social entrepreneurship, education, and civic participation.
Bluechain’s goal is to develop inclusive digital solutions that connect technology with social value and make digital participation more accessible to all.
Role in the Project
WP4
Bluechain is the leader of WP4 – The CitizenUnited+ Platform and is responsible for the design, development, testing, and finalization of the project’s digital platform.
The platform will provide inclusive e-participation tools that support civic engagement and democratic participation, with a strong focus on accessibility for people with disabilities and people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Through the creation of these tools, students, faculty members, public administration professionals, civil society organisations, and citizens will be able to participate more actively in democratic life.

Bluechain will also lead the project’s Inclusion Strategy, ensuring that project activities, resources, and digital tools are designed in an accessible, inclusive, and user-friendly way.
In addition, Bluechain will contribute to WP2 and WP3 educational materials.

Dimitrios Sfounis
Software Engineer
Dimitrios Sfounis is a computer scientist and software engineer with extensive experience in full-scale system deployment, blockchain technologies, and smart contract programming. He is the lead software architect of Bluechain and has been internationally awarded for smart contract and blockchain-related projects.
Sofia Vlachou
Project Manager
Sofia Vlachou is a data analyst and mathematician with experience in data analysis, STEM education, and project management. As Project Manager of Bluechain, she applies agile methodologies to support the effective implementation of projects and is responsible for quality assurance and the monitoring of development outputs.
Dimitrios Kolovos
Operations Manager
Dimitrios Kolovos is an economist and decentralized finance researcher with experience in financial systems, auditing, taxation, and the design of internal microeconomies for blockchain-based systems. He is responsible for Bluechain’s social and sustainability strategy and he also has experience in teaching and mentoring in the fields of decentralized economies, the Metaverse, digital entrepreneurship, and social entrepreneurship.
Hariklia Sfouni
Health Professional & Researcher
Hariklia Sfouni is a qualified nurse and public health professional specialised in public health care and community care nursing. She has experience in healthcare provision and education, having worked in hospitals, open care centres for elderly people, primary healthcare services, and regional public health structures. She is Bluechain’s main researcher in projects related to health, inclusion, and educational programmes for socially vulnerable groups.
